The first time I saw Mary Jo Bole’s work I thought, “Boy, this artist has a thing for toilets.”  The next winter she was my first level ceramics professor and I thought “Oh, wow, this artist is amazing!”  I had not wanted to be in ceramics but her enthusiasm, ways of teaching, and experiences showed me a whole new way of thinking about clay.  And though her toilet obsession is what brought us here I want to start with a little background on Mary Jo Bole.
