In 1981, George Michael’s band Wham! was at the top of the charts but in 1998 he was “arrested for engaging in a lewd act in a public toilet.” *  It was reported in The Independent News on April 9, 1998, that “an under cover officer ‘went into the restroom and did observe Michael in a lewd act. He was by himself.”  It then goes on to say “[The officer] refused to say whether the star exposed himself, but stated that ‘he was aware he was being observed.  We believe that Michael knew there was another individual [i.e. grown man staring at him] who has walked into the bathroom and was aware of his presence.”  Needless to say, Michael pled “no contest” to the charge, was fined $810 and 80 hours of community service.**   

Oh yeah, he also participated in Band Aid, famine relief efforts for Ethiopia, donated several thousand dollars for charities for children, AIDS and education and is currently involved in a campaign to help raise $32 million for terminally ill children.***
