And like Andy’s movies, gritty and grainy, he left it up
to chance. It’s what people copy today. There has
always been controversy over the payment of Andy’s
Superstars vs. what he made on the low budget films, but
Holly Woodlawn, who starred in Women in Revolt and
Trash
in 1970 summed up her story in one line. She said, “I
got $150 for Women in Revolt, but if it wasn’t for Andy
I wouldn’t be who I am. And I’m fucking fabulous!” |

Penny also mentioned the ages of everyone on the panel.
They are all over 50 and still making art. Taylor Mead
is 82 years old and is still a performance artist. His
advice to Columbus' artists was…and listen well to a wise man,
“Don’t leave Columbus…New York is…impossible pecking
order bullshit and to get into a gallery and then be
promoted is so so political and crap…Make your own
theatre here, make your own art galleries.” |
