Remembering back to
the ol’ Savage Garden days, it was the cosmic sound that pulled me into
their
music and the recognition of off beat subcultures that kept me there. Darren has
accomplished again with
This Delicate Thing We’ve
Made
a wonderful image of flying through space and time. His love for MySpace
and the computer culture has satisfied any prerequisite for a lonely heart and
the vocal diversity of the album is more than just tricks with a Fairlight CMI.
The electronic adaptation is a timeline that adds personality to each and every
song. If I was to
compare this album to another, not in song or sound but in originality and
distinction, I would have to say I have not heard something this good since
David Bowie’s 1995 release of
Outside. Photo by Dreama Being a huge Star Wars fan it is obvious where the space influence may have came from but in a blog posted on August 30, 2007 Darren wrote, "I was listening to one of my favourite albums of all time tonight and I realized I very rarely talk about it or mention it when I describe my decision to make a double album and specifically a concept one. The album I hail as one of my favourite of all time is actually a Eurythmics album called 'Savage.' ...This was a deeply disturbing and psychological journey of a woman. I dare not presume exactly what the exact stories described - but to me it seemed to speak for the downtrodden women and particularly the sort of disenfranchised female uber class who were delegated the role of sophisticated house wife but were in fact miserable...If you haven't listened to this album and you wanted to connect the dots from a piece of art that inspired the record I made, do check it out."
And do check out
This Delicate Thing We’ve
Made,
it is
theatrical, colossal and tells a great story.
Stop in…buy the album and tell him The Voyeur sent you... (trust me, the man has wonderful taste in shoes...)
