A crackling fire, the whinny of a horse in
the darkness, the icy wind on a cold winter's night. Four men sit in a
circle drinking mead and speaking of the journey ahead. They are going
home. But where will they find the strength to keep going? How far will they have to go? 'A Home We Lost,' from The Conquering's new album of the same name tells the tale of this journey. From battles to feasts, from the gods to the earth it is this that makes The Conquering more than just a band. It is this that makes them Folk Black Metal. I stumbled upon The Conquering in a thick wilderness. It was a grim day. They told me stories of music and merriment and I left remembering a time when the winter's chill wasn't so cold, when I followed the paths through the darkness by only the light of the moon. It was a long time ago but I remember that battles can still be won. |
