THE
VOYEUR: For our readers who are not familiar with Death Metal, could you
describe (in any way you want) your sound.
THE CONQUERING: Well, first off we're not a Death
Metal band. We're a Folk Black Metal band. I think that for most people, all
extreme music is the same, but once you've been a part of it for so long, the
multitudes of sub-genres actually do make sense.
How did you come up with the name “The Conquering?”
Dustin, our first bass player, came up with the
idea to use it as our name. It's actually taken from the Satyricon song by the
same name.
Do any of you have a hidden talent that would not be expected
of a Black Metal musician?
We debate about philosophy and advanced physics for
fun. Earlier tonight we had a nice long debate about black holes, globalization,
alternate dimensions, death and rebirth, and deja vu. We have odd conversations
a lot. I think people expect us to be mindless self-absorbed drunks all the
time, when the truth is, we just do that on the weekend.
Who are your artistic influences?
That question would require a short essay to cover
all of them. We each have our unique interests that aren't shared by other band
members. We also draw from things other than art. Christopher is heavily
influenced by his belief in the Nordic gods, Jason by philosophy/logic, James
by...being self important, and Charlie on trying to get laid. As a cohesive band
though, we're influenced by the things we see in the world around us, the
destruction of what we hold as holy, and beer. Cause life isn't complete without
eating, drinking, riding horses, singing, and playing music.
