I have never seen a Phoenix but I have heard about the myth.  At the end of its long life the Phoenix ignites itself on a pile of twigs and then is reborn from the ashes.  It is a beautiful bird of orange and gold.  It is a magnificent story.

And what is needed more for a fashion show than a magnificent story?

            A magnificent group of people.

The Ohio State University Textiles and Clothing Student Design Show has been an annual event for 15 years and Dr. Nancy Rudd has been the producer and executive director throughout the duration.  But she does not stand alone.  The designers, she says, "are all my students – in product development in the Textiles and Clothing major in our department."

Together they brought what used to be a small event into the public eye and had a bigger turnout than last year.

This years design show had a special twist.  It was to raise funds for Breast Cancer and Heart Disease research.  The story of the Phoenix was used to represent rebirth and at the end of the show survivors, friends and family effected by Breast Cancer or Heart Disease were recognized.

After spending a quarter in her Textiles and Clothing class I caught up with Dr. Rudd to ask a few important questions about the show.  I found out that not only do these student designers have amazing talent but there is much more to a fashion show than putting on a pretty dress and walking the runway.
