THE VOYEUR:  Where do you start when planning a show like this?

DR. NANCY RUDD:  Literally immediately after one show, we begin brainstorming ideas for a new show, and try to find students who are interested in serving as co-directors under me (the producer).

How long did this show take to plan, start to finish?

We began meeting with students Autumn quarter, and they started sketching designs.  We also began to set up the working production committees.  We met weekly all winter and spring quarters.  The 2 co-directors and I met more often than that.

Are the shows always for charity?

No, this is the first one.  We barely make enough to cover our costs most years, but this year we added a silent auction to help raise funds for research because it fit the “theme” of the show.  We also publicized the charity aspect of the show, and we had a bigger turnout than last year.

What was the most difficult part of this show?

Getting students to complete the construction of their designs on time, and doing fittings and adjustments on their models.  Each garment is really custom-fit.
