What is the week before a
show like?
Chaotic! In addition to teaching my normal classes, I am
trying to handle all sorts of crises – last minute details
that no one has taken care of, final negotiations on the
stage and rental items, finalizing script and PowerPoint
presentation, soothing student dilemmas and short tempers,
making sure the program is printed, the auction items
labeled and catalogued, making sure we have enough hair and
makeup people, getting last minute items for the reception,
checking the sound system and lighting system the day of the
show, helping the professional photographer, hanging on for
dear life! |

What is
your favorite part of the show?
Seeing the look of pride on the designers’ faces after their
“first” show, and knowing they realize they really have
talent!
How much
input do you have in the overall show?
A lot – I am the producer,
and the executive director.

How do you determine what
designs walk the runway and what stays out?
We coordinate all the student sketches in each act, to see
that we have a logical and creative grouping. Often,
students will change their ideas mid-stream. Sometimes the
designs don’t work out, and a student will pull a design.
More often, students get very creative and add one or two
more designs. |

What will the designers most
likely do with their designs now that the show is over?
That is up to each designer. Some of them made them to fit
themselves, and others have received offers to see them.
Some plan to auction them on E-Bay. |
