So, let me
first clarify the word mutation, because I feel like it seems scary.
It does not denote a negative change in something. It is simply
defined as different from the thing prior to it. Some mutations are
beneficial to a species, some mutations are neutral to a species,
and some mutations can be devastating to a species.
|
For example,
if flies mutated to have their wings on their heads, this mutation
would obviously only be harmful to this species because they would
not be able to move quickly enough to take care of themselves, on
any level, being that their weight would be distributed
disproportionately in order to fly away from predators and also to
obtain food. They would eventually die out. However, if this same
species of flies, instead, let’s say, mutated to be able to change
colors (in the manner that a chameleon does) then this mutation
would serve their species well. If for no other reason, they could
protect themselves better, by blending into their environment in
order to not be killed by other species. |
|
This would, at least to some degree, help them to flourish. In this
case the mutation would be beneficial to the species. So, we
cannot be scared of the word mutation. Or in other words, we cannot
be scared of things changing. Change often times promotes positive
outcomes. I believe that following this logic, that homosexuality is
just a different strand of mutation. It is a part of evolution that
could just as easily benefit humanity.
