The Voyeur isn’t meant to focus on women’s fashion only. I really want a nice balance of the two. It is difficult to get men to model though. True. The Voyeur name implies visual deviance but the main point is exposing the creativity of the mind. It is voyeuristic in a sense that you get to peek into what we hide. Everyone has creative talent but not everyone shares it with the world. Either they are embarrassed or don’t get an opportunity. I wanted to give people the opportunity without mainstream pressure. MySpace and YouTube have sort of helped with this but a lot of that is really random. Warhol would have loved it. I wanted my website to be more organized but still have carefree qualities. I wanted each issue to have a theme and show how art works in sync with fashion and politics. I don’t think I have accomplished that yet, but we are headed that way. Each issue is better than the last. Believe it or not, it has inspired a few people to show things that they normally would not have shown or even submit work to other magazines. It’s a first step to better things. That’s exactly how I want it to be. Why isn’t Joe part of the magazine anymore? He came up with some really cool animated gifs and gave me the link to an html tutorial. The gifs made it a little busier than I had originally imagined so I started to think about how I wanted it to look. He was veering more toward film making and I continued to build the site. Yes, the first issue was all code. Is that why you don’t use Flash and all that fancy stuff? Yeah, I get really put off when I go to a site and everything is spinning or popping up all over the place. I hate to wait for things to load and I hate to have to install something to see the page. I guess I’m old fashioned. I just don’t want all that chaos, my life is chaotic enough! I probably should have listened to him about using banner ads to generate income though. Last I talked to Joe he was doing well and living way up North. What a story! I bet you are leaving out the juicy details. Maybe our readers will send in some questions for you to answer (hint hint). Before we wrap it up, lets talk about what else you do. I hear you up and about all hours of the day. Most people are up during the day, Joel. Really? How dreadful. I’ve heard people call you ‘the Jack of All Trades.’ What’s that all about? I can pretty much half-ass anything you need. I’m really trying to focus on learning photography though and improve my painting technique. Oh and writing too. How do you balance all that with the magazine and school? I don’t. My main focus is school, of course. I have downtime here and there on campus so I write then. Painting is kind of reserved for school vacation. Note: vacation from school, not really a vacation. |
