ARTPRISONISSUE070809-11

Computers have become as common as the everyday cold and the contagions have attacked the art world.  You see them everywhere in film, photography, digital painting, interactive sculpture; all of this is defined as Art & Technology.  And it is the Art & Tech department of OSU that has become my home.  Ran by Professors Ken Rinaldo and Amy Youngs, this duo has turned it into something great.  And the demand is growing.  This past spring quarter there were15 applicants to the college of Art & Technology but there was only room for 7 to be accepted.  It is stiff competition but it is easy to see why; the classes are challenging and everyone wants to work for Pixar.

"3D computer modeling, animation, digital imaging, electronics, interactive robotic sculpture, holography, web based works, multimedia installation and sound" (SWITCH V6N1) are what you will find at the quarterly Art & Tech show - an amazing display of work split between the main gallery and the sound stage in Haskett Hall.  This spring's theme was Anthropocene, a term used to describe the current geological period, starting from the 18th century when human activities began to impact global climate and ecosystems.      On the next two pages, Belinda Tran and Daniel Hsieh share with us their projects from a 3D Sculpture/ Modeling class, taught by Ken Rinaldo, and a Multimedia Authoring class, taught by Sonya Lucas.  The quarterly shows are open to the public so come by next fall and see the amazing work for yourself!
