My thoughts

I understand Jenna’s concerns for her sons.  Its one thing to say “F-ck the world, I don’t care what you think!” but it’s quite another to ignore what your family thinks about you.  You can pretend you don’t care, but family can hurt.  They can cut you out of their lives, and punish you in ways the public won’t understand.  Is it human nature that this happens? Religious beliefs?  Fear of not being accepted in society?

In my mind it is also quite unfair for society to pass judgment on a mother’s children based solely on the “supposed” sins of the mother.    If she had been a CEO of a multi-billion dollar company and hadn’t been a porn star, would they treat her children differently?  Probably not.

And who is to say those other mothers aren’t secretly watching porn and erotica themselves?  If Oprah’s quoted statistic is right, I think they’d be a bit hypocritical to say a damn word.

There seems to be an odd battle of societal “morals” right now.  The funny thing is, the ones who sling the most mud, seem to have the most to hide.  How about Ms. Carrie Prejean?  In a cynical way I’ve almost enjoyed watching that scandal unfold.

Now, would I myself choose Jenna’s profession? Perhaps not.  However, that does not mean that I think badly of her choices.  I have my own reasons to make the choices I’ve made.  But if I had children of my own, I would not think twice about letting them associate with Jenna’s children, based on her past.

To quote a wise man I adore: “We are all doing the best that we can from our current state of consciousness.”

Tolerance and Acceptance is the only answer that will work in the end.  I wish “society” would shut the hell up and smell the coffee.
