VSGal and Amy used to work together for an IT Company “back in the day.”  Recently, Amy quit her day-job to become a full-time small business owner.  VSGal is quite intrigued, as she would love to do the same someday.

VSGAL:  What is Mikamy Meadows ? 

Mikamy Meadows: We are a small cottage business located in the heart of the Midwest in Ohio. We develop and produce natural home, pet, and body care products. Amy was formerly an ecommerce consultant and financial services project manager and Mike is a consulting technologist (architecture, java, start up business guru, and otherwise technical genius). Mikamy Meadows is the result of a mutual desire to own a home-based business and to make a product that we feel good about not only making, but also selling.  

How did you come up with the idea for this business?  

In 2002 I started using Bee Happy Herbs bath products. This company was started by a former coworker.   In 2005, she sold it to her sister-in-law, and I was devastated I couldn’t buy the recipes!

So, in October of 2007 when I received an email that Bee Happy Herbs was closing (again), I decided that in order to get the awesome product formulas I would have to buy the whole company. So we did. When we left Columbus and bought our 22 acre property, we always knew we would run a home-based business of some sort on our land. I also wanted to use the property as part of our livelihood but was still tossing around various ideas. I love all things “nature” and while I still have other ideas, the natural bath and body products are the perfect fit for my love of using natural ingredients and staying busy with my hands. This year I planted 20 lavender plants, spearmint and peppermint. In addition, I’ve started lavendula, St. John’s wort, and bee balm, all of which will eventually go into our products.
